Juan Archuleta (JSE Archuleta) is a well known Bay Area Fine Artist.

Early Years -

On his grandparents farm in Louisiana, Juan was drawing everything around him. “In my first years at school, I was the kid who could draw just about anything”. At the age of 10 in the club car of the Southern Pacific train, Archuleta remembers sketching portraits of people around him. From that point he was able to always find a way to gain extra spending money.

Although mostly self taught, Archuleta has always been a student of the arts. Attending briefly the California College of Arts and Crafts, and later the Scottsdale Art School in Arizona. “Like most sciences, art in its truest sense never graduates its students. To be alive presupposes we are learning”.

Professional Career -

Archuleta’s professional career in art began with portraiture in 1972. Since 1976 Archuleta has supported his wife and children by devoting his life to beautifully executed landscape paintings. Becoming most acclaimed for his forest scenes that express his fascination with nature and its myriad of mysteries. In viewing his classic redwood pieces, an individual is faced with grand scale contrasts to contemplate - the fragility of a small deer set in the midst of the great power and timelessness of the Redwoods.

In explaining the variations in his approach, Archuleta states “some paintings are thin and wash-like, resembling a watercolor; others have a more dense laying of paint (impasto). In some I have chosen to use a more impressionistic approach, while others, more detail. I let the mood of the subject and my perception interpret it’s message.”
